Making my rounds

It is getting closer to our drive out date and I'm starting to see friends for the last time. We had a little potluck at work for my last full week of work. We had a Mexican theme with lots of good food. Since my kitchen is in shambles and I was not feeling like making anything I bought coffee for everyone. Here's our daily pilgrimage to Barnes and Noble. You can't really tell but the sky was starting to show a little bit of purple, very pretty but alas still dark at 9am.

In the evening I went to the Quickutz club at Back Porch Memories http://www.backporchmemories.com/ Several of the ladies that I have scrapbooked with over the years here were there, they even threw me a going away party.

Heres some of the gang, new and old friends

Who said "Mel Gibson"?

Things We Don't Talk About at Crops: Religion, Politics, and Mel Gibson. Nobody really said "he who should not be named" because we know better...

Well that's about the extent of yesterday. I need to finish getting ready so we can go clean out the truck and get some groceries...

Good Moving Weather... early

We're finally in the homestretch of packing, plenty still to do but really close to actually loading up. our moving container shows up next week and we finally got a break in the weather... it was a heat wave today! some signs said 30-40 and that's above zero! with all of the -40 we've been seeing we thought surely "warm" would be -20...
I took the opportunity to dig out some of our stuff from the backyard. Living in Alaska you never know how long good weather is going to last so if you have something to do you just do it. I did some shoveling to get to the grill...

The neighbor's dog kept an eye on me...

We've also been visited by some moose. Brian is determined to see one in the yard before we leave, but here are there tracks:

The other night the moon was the most visible it will be in all of 2009, we're a lot closer to the moon anyways but this is what it looked like at about 10pm (akst):

and this is what it looked like with the flash from my camera (keep in mind it was -40)

Well that's all I got so far. Just keeping busy with work, packing, and procrastinating. I also finished my socks and will post pictures probably tomorrow... Brian still wants his sweater already...

The Beginning

The DH and I are getting ready to leave our current home in Fairbanks, AK because the Army is sending us to our new home in Alabama. This blog is going to contain pictures and information about our trip out of Alaska and across the country. I'm doing this mostly for friends and family to keep track of us as we make our way. Days like today make me glad we're leaving.

The sign is a little hard to read but it says -41. Yes, that is warmer than it's been. All of the cold weather creates a low lying ice fog, I think it's pretty but not that great for driving.

This is actually pretty decent visibility and was taken on post, pretend I didn't take it... opsec and all...
This is the street we live on...

And I've always wanted to take this picture with all the Ravens pigging out...

Well it is time for me to get back to making dinner. We're having fried chicken, cornbread, pasta salad, and baked beans... I'll post pictures later of the knitting projects I'm working on... which should be the boxes that I need to be packing...
