Drive through Oregon

Going in to the Redwood Forest. We drove out of Oregon in to California and then back in to Oregon. We stayed the night in Brookings, Oregon. The hotel was prolly the best yet, but we're hitting the road today to go towards Napa, CA....
After driving through the flat area we got in to some hills. They reminded me alot of paintings from the 1800s of classical mythological stories set amidst landscapes like the hills in England... get out that art history book....

Driving though Oregon was pretty surprising, Portland was unimpressive... but we also didn't stop in the town. I have never seen so much sheep in my life! I never knew that Oregon was the sheep place of this country... we also saw lots of cows and horses.

Seattle Day 3

Chicken, rice and mushroom Piroshky... I had the beef and cheese...
PIROSHKY PIROSHKY! I heard about this place watching Anthony Bourdain on the travel channel. (he's my favorite chef- read some of his books...) Russian food at it's best. We ate here more than anywhere else... oh and that's Brian instinctively avoiding getting his picture taken

Very likely the best hot chocolate ever, and gelato...

Next to the EMP is the Science Fiction Museum, well duh, Brian and I both wanted to check that out. If you don't know what the above picture is, I really can't help you... but you should know... you just should

The reflection of the Space Needle on the Emp building

We went and did laundry near the hotel, then hit the road to got the space needle. We road the monarail which was a little rickety. After the Space Needle we checked out the Experience Music Project. The Emp highlights local artists such as Jimi Hendrix who I had no idea was from Seattle.

Seattle Day 2

This was a stop for Brian. Wizards of the Coast makes the card game that Brian has been playing for something like 10 years.
If you look really closely you can see Mt. Rainier between the two light posts.

I then was able to drag Brian to the Seattle Art Museum. I think the best thing was pictured above, it's made out of dog tags. On closer examination they don't really say anything, just random letters I guess that could be meaninful. We didn't see any information about it in the gallery either. The SAM was ok I'm kind of a musuem snob, having gone to the Smithsonian as a kid and the Louvre as a teenager I'm rather biased.

Maybe I'll have to make Seattle Socks....

The yarn I bought while at the churchmouse yarn store. I think the bottom skein of yarn looks like the building we saw on the ferry ride back in (pictured above)

We started the day by heading downtown to catch the ferry to Bainbridge Island. Seattle has the largest ferry system in the country. We went to Bainbridge Island to check out a yarn shop, (yeah totally Brian's idea... right...) The town was pretty cute, very high brow though...

AAAHHH AHHH! The First Starbucks (on this block...)

We got off at Sitka for an hour to walk around

Haines

you should know the deal by now...

C eh? N eh? D eh?

posting too much to fix all of the html codes... start at the bottom please!

So... Canada eh? Yes, we have said eh? after everything! and i mean everything, i'd laugh and say eh? and it apparently stuck because we're in Seattle and still saying it... eh? We drove through the Yukon Territory and stayed the night in Destruction Bay, the next day it was on through British Columbia and then back in to Alaska... I have a thing for mounties and didn't really see any... we saw more animals than people...

Leaving Alaska

Start at the Bottom!

we left Fairbanks early (not nearly early enough) on Saturday morning (1/31)... this is the first chance we've had at internet since Haines, AK and the only time I've been able to load pictures. I'm going to post a whole bunch of posts in sections. There isn't a whole lot of explaining to do for pictures but I'll do what I can... got a lot of posting to make up for...

boarding the ferry

hey this is going to be short and sweet, we're about to get on the ferry in Haines, Ak (valley of the eagles) we'll be on the boat for about 4 days. most likely without internet, no idea, we don't even think we'll have showers...? brian doesn't remember if he took one last time. the drive here was alright, a little long, and lots of animals, lots of pictures too. we're on the computer at the public library in Haines. I'll hopefully be able to post pictures once we get to civilization again (Seattle on Friday)... It's already warmer here too!
